Comparisons of Light Therapy
Laser Classification
Lasers are classified into four classes and two subclasses based on their wavelength and maximum output of power. The classifications categorize lasers according to their ability to produce damage in exposed people, from class I (no hazard during normal use) to class IV (severe hazard for eyes and skin). The classes are I, II, IIa, IIIa, IIIb, and IV.
Class III vs Class IV Lasers
The main differences between class III and class IV lasers are the maximum power output and the depth of penetration. Class III lasers have insufficient power and penetration capabilities to provide the long-lasting healing and pain relieving treatments of class IV therapeutic lasers.
LED Light Vs Laser Light
LED, or light emitting diode, is different from laser light because of its coherency—that is, how light wavelengths move in relation to each other. LED light emits incoherent waveforms so the light from an LED device is released in many directions. However, laser light have coherent waveforms, meaning that all the light waves move parallel to each other which creates a strong, tight beam of light.
